October Students of the Month 2007

OWATONNA—Peter Knutson, son of Paul and Deb Knutson, and Roosevelt “Rosy” Ditlevson, son of Mark Ditlevson and Renee Worke, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for October.

Ashley Grubisch, daughter of William and Karen Grubisch, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for the month.  All three students are seniors at Owatonna High School.

Knutson plays cello in the Symphony Orchestra and Dinner Ensemble.  He also sings in the Concert Choir and Carolers.  He plays varsity soccer and runs on the track and field team.  He has performed in the Owatonna and Cannon Valley Community Orchestras and in the Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestra and Minnesota Youth Symphony.

Knutson is employed at Cash Wise Foods and as a cello teacher and string quartet performer.  For college, he is considering Michigan, Syracuse, and Rochester, with a possible major in aerospace or civil engineering.

Ditlevson plays viola in the Symphony Orchestra and Dinner Ensemble and sings in the Concert Choir.  Last year, he had the musical lead in the theater production of “Brigadoon.”  He is a member of the National Honor Society and plays varsity tennis.  For three years he has attended the Interlochen Arts Academy as an Emerson Scholar, furthering his study of string instruments.  He is an Eagle Scout, a four-year 4-H Club participant, and a Young Life member.

Ditlevson also performs in the Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestra and the Honors Choir of Southeast Minnesota.  He is a member of the Straight River String Quartert, which plays at weddings, banquets, and other special occasions.  For college, he is considering the United States Naval Academy or perhaps one of the other service academies or Columbia University, specializing in political science.

Grubisch is a member of Peer Helpers and has participated in Link Crew.  She pitches and plays first base on the varsity softball team.  She also plays on the Owatonna Fastpitch Association’s women’s team.  She is employed at Learning Zone Express and by the West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.  For college, she is considering the University of Minnesota at Duluth, studying toward a career in childhood oncology.

All three students attend Rotary Club luncheons at the Holiday Inn and will receive special recognition at the Oct. 29 luncheon.
