January Students of the Month 2008

OWATONNA—Ryan Johnson, son of Larry and Sally Johnson, and Valerie Schultz, daughter of Larry and Cindy Schultz, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for January. Both are seniors and attend Owatonna Christian School.
Jamie Lindgren, daughter of Betsy Lindgren, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for the month. A senior, she attends Owatonna High School.
Johnson has played basketball at OCS for four years and also plays soccer and baseball. He has sung in the choir for four years and plays piano and guitar in the school ensemble. As well, he is a member of the Art Club. At Grace Baptist Church in Mankato—where his father is pastor—he sings in the choir and assists with Junior Church. He also plays guitar with several youth groups.
Johnson is currently employed by the Owatonna Park and Recreation Department as a lifeguard at West Hills. For college, he plans to attend Pillsbury Baptist Bible College, looking toward a career in the ministry or in coaching.
Schultz has played volleyball at OCS for five years. She sings in the choir, is advertising manager for the school yearbook, and tutors other students in math. At Grace Baptist Church in Owatonna she sings in the choir and assists with Junior Church. She is employed at her family’s business, Larry Schultz Organic Farms.
For college, Schultz intends to attend Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, WI, majoring in nursing or mathematics.
Lindgren, at OHS, is a varsity cheerleader for both football and boys hockey. She has played JV basketball and has also participated in Youth Service Leadership. In addition, she has coached youth cheerleading. At St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, she is a Eucharistic minister, a greeter, and an usher. She has been a retreat team member for St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart. She is currently employed at Kwik Trip.
For postsecondary education, Lindgren will attend La’ James College in Mason City, IA, studying cosmetology and estiology, after which she plans to attend South Dakota State University, majoring in early childhood education.
All three students attend Rotary Club luncheons at the Holiday Inn and will receive special recognition at the Jan. 28 meeting.
