February Students of the Month 2008

OWATONNA—Ashley Fetters, daughter of Jeff and Marty Fetters, and Ellen Nelson, daughter of Steve and Paulette Nelson, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for February.
Griffin Anderson, son of Robert and Dayna Anderson, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for the month.
All three students are seniors at Owatonna High School.
Fetters is a member of the OHS chapter of the National Honor Society. She is a four-year member of the Speech Team and has been co-captain for two years. Over a period of four years, she has appeared in numerous OHS theatrical productions. She has also performed with Carolers and the Concert Choir for three years. In addition, she is a four-year member of the Dinner Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, where, as a violinist, she has served as associate concertmaster. She also works on the OHS “Magnet,” the school newspaper.
At Bethel Church, Fetters has served in the Youth Ministry and on the Sunday Morning Worship Team. In the church’s Vacation Bible School, she has been both a teacher and team leader. She is also a Big Sister. She is a self-employed violin teacher, providing instruction to elementary school-age students. In the fall, Fetters will be attending Northwestern University, majoring in journalism.
Nelson is a three-year member of both the Symphony Orchestra and the Dinner Ensemble. She has sung for two years with both the Concert Choir and the Carolers. She is also a National Honor Society member. She serves as a Peer Helper to elementary school students.
At Trinity Lutheran Church, Nelson has performed for three years with the Senior Choir. As well, she has served on the Worship, Music, and Fine Arts Commission and as a Sunday School teacher for three years. She also served for two years in the Peer Ministry. She has been a member of the Owatonna CROPWalk Committee. She is self-employed as a viola and piano teacher and performs with the Straight River String Quartet. In the Fall, Nelson will attend St. Olaf College, majoring in English.
Anderson is a member of DECA and BPA, the high school’s business clubs. He is also vice-president of the Minnesota state DECA organization. He is an National Honor Society member, serving the local chapter as its historian. At OHS, he has run track for three years and cross country for two. He is a three-year Speech Team member and currently serves as co-captain.
At Trinity Lutheran Church, he is active in the Youth Ministry. He is an Eagle Scout and volunteers with the American Red Cross, Toys for Tots, and Family to Family. He is currently employed at Hometown Credit Union. For college, Anderson is considering Villanova, Northeastern, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota—Twin Cities, and Loyola—Chicago, intending to major in Financial Marketing and Economics.
All three students attend Rotary Club luncheons at the Owatonna Country Club and will receive special recognition at the Feb. 25 meeting.
