OWATONNA—Cole Nyquist, son of Jerry and Jane Nyquist, and James Ebeling, son of Corky and Julie Ebeling, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for November.
Ashley Pierce, daughter of Scott and Shawn Pierce, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for November.
All three students are seniors at Owatonna High School.
Nyquist is a three-year participant in Knowledge Bowl and has captained the team. He has also participated in SHOC (Students Helping Others Choose), Link Crew, Theatre, and Caroleers. He has also studied in Germany via the German-American Partnership Program.
In addition, Nyquist has helped with Straight River Cleanup and has made two Bethel Church-sponsored mission trips to Vermillion, Minnesota.
For college, Nyquist is considering St. Olaf plus several other schools, intending to specialize in ancient and medieval history plus philosophy.
Ebeling has been an OHS Student Council member for four years and is a member of the National Honor Society. He plays football, hockey, and golf and captains the hockey and golf teams. He has participated in SHOC, Peer Helpers, Link Crew, Band, and Orchestra. He has worked on both the OHS Yearbook and the school newspaper. In April, he was a Rotary-sponsored student to Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).
Ebeling has also taught Sunday School and takes part in Young Life. He has been a Youth Hockey Mentor and Youth Football Mentor as well as a Toys for Tots worker. He has been employed as a lifeguard by both the Owatonna Country Club and Owatonna Parks and Recreation.
For college, Ebeling is considering Iowa State and Gustavus Adolphus, expecting to specialize in pre-med or biomedical illustration.
Pierce is president of Business Professionals of America. She has participated in Peer Helpers, Link Crew, and on the Prom Committee. She is currently attending Riverland College along with OHS.
Pierce is active in youth groups at Bethel Church. She is currently employed at Nike’s in the Medford Mall.
For college, she is planning on attending the University of Minnesota—Duluth, majoring in business.
All three students have attended Rotary Club luncheons at the Holiday Inn and received special recognition at the November 27 luncheon.
