September Students of the Month 2006

OWATONNA—Molly Plate, daughter of Reinold and Gia Plate, and Dan Card, son of Dave and Sarah Card, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for September.  Both are seniors at Owatonna High School.

 

Stacy Jacobson, daughter of Dale and Barb Jacobson, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for September.  She is currently enrolled at both Riverland College and OHS.

 

Plate is a three-year member of the Student Council and currently serves as secretary.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society.  She is a four-year competitor in gymnastics and captains the gymnastics team.  She played soccer for three years and also runs cross country.  She has sung with the Concert Choir for four years and played two years with the Varsity Band.  She has also participated in Peer Helpers and SHOC (Students Helping Others Choose).

 

She is one of twelve candidates for Homecoming Queen at OHS.

 

She is a four-year participant in Young Life.  At Sacred Heart Church, she has served as a lector and sung in the Praise and Worship music group.  She is currently employed at Old Town Bagels.

 

For college, Plate is considering St. Thomas University and Syracuse University, with a possible concentration on pre-med.

 

Card has served on the OHS Student Council for two years and is a National Honor Society member.  He is a member of the cross country, wrestling, and track teams.  In track, he runs the 800 meters.

 

He is one of twelve candidates for Homecoming King.

 

He has served as youth wrestling coach and referee for the Owatonna Wrestling Association.  He is currently employed at Hy-Vee.

 

For college, Card is considering several institutions, intending to major in secondary education.

 

Jacobson has played tennis at OHS for four years.  She has been the 4-H Club treasurer and served with Link Crew. 

 

In the community, she has participated with Big Brothers and Big Sisters for three years and has been a Salvation Army volunteer.  At Trinity Lutheran Church, she has taught Vacation Bible School for three years.  She was last employed at B&P Maintenance and the Owatonna Tennis and Fitness Center.

 

Currently attending Riverland, she plans to matriculate at the University of Minnesota, Mankato, majoring in social work or criminal justice.

 

All three students attend weekly Rotary Club luncheons at the Holiday Inn and will receive special recognition at the September 28 meeting.
