OWATONNA—Laura Maas, daughter of Dave and Kim Maas, and Tess Dornfeld, daughter of Kirk Dornfeld and Carol Winter, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for April.
Ashley Thompson, daughter of Barry and Karen Thompson, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for April.
All three are seniors at Owatonna High School.
Mass is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, has served on the Student Council, and has worked with Peer Helpers, SHOC (Students Helping Others Choose), and Club Latino. She has run cross country for five years and served as this year’s team captain. She also is a three-year participant on a club rugby team in Burnsville. At Sacred Heart Church, she has served as a religious education teacher. She has also been a nursing home volunteer. She is currently employed at Applebee’s and The Gap. For college, she is considering George Washington University and the University of Maryland, with an intended major in communications.
Dornfeld is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in Mock Trial and Knowledge Bowl. She has worked with Peer Helpers, SHOC, and on the Prom Committee. She has participated in tennis for four years. She is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and has been named a Top Advanced Placement Scholar by the College Board. She received the Josten’s Junior Academic Achievement Award last year and also the national Rensselaer Medal for achievement in mathematics and science. At the Associated church, she has participated in the bell choir. She has been employed by Food for Thought and Sawbill Canoe Outfitters. For college, she is considering Macalester and Carleton, most likely majoring in Spanish.
Thompson is a four-year participant in band at OHS. She is a sales associate at Pacific Sun. She is undecided about college.
All three students attend weekly Rotary luncheons at the Holiday Inn and will receive special recognition at the Apr. 24 meeting.
