OWATONNA—Derek Boeddeker, son of Todd and Cindy Boeddeker, and Colin Furness, son of David and Catherine Brown Furness, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for November.
Terry Nelson, son of Tammy Nelson, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for November.
All three are seniors at Owatonna High School.
Boeddeker is a five-year participant in cross country, a four-year participant in track, and a three-year participant in basketball. He is captain of both the cross country and track teams. In addition, he has participated in the Minnesota Junior Players Golf Tour. In his church, Boeddeker is active in various youth ministries. He is employed at Van Heusen’s in the Medford Mall. For college, he is considering Bethel (St. Paul), Wheaton (Illinois), and Drake (Des Moines). His possible career goals are medicine or optometry.
Furness is a four-year participant in both soccer and track and a two-year participant in football. He has been captain of the speech team for three years. He is a three-year member of the Student Council, where he has served as treasurer, and has two years of service with Peer Helpers and Link Crew. He is on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, he has worked on clean-up day in behalf of senior citizens, and has been a Youth Soccer coach. At the United Methodist Church, Furness has been a Youth Group member for four years and has served on three different mission trips. He is employed at Van Heusen’s. He plans to attend the University of Iowa, majoring in geography or education.
Nelson is a member of DECA, a business-oriented student group, and has served as Assistant Technical Director for the high school’s Technical Theatre. He is employed at Target. For college, he plans to attend Riverland, with an emphasis on law enforcement and corrections.
All three students attend Rotary Club weekly luncheons at the Holiday Inn and will receive special recognition at the Nov. 28 meeting.
