October Students of the Month 2005

OWATONNA—Al Meger, son of Glen and Cheryl Meger, and Derek Eddie, son of Tom and Janeen Eddie, are the Owatonna Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for October.
Tyler Cochran, son of Steve and Lisa Cochran, is the Rotary Club’s Top Team Student for October.
All three are seniors at Owatonna High School.
Meger has participated in wrestling for four years, baseball for two, and soccer for one. In wrestling, he was Minnesota state champion in his weight division one year and runner-up on another occasion. His wrestling team won the state championship in 2005. In his junior year, he was named an Academic All-State Wrestler. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Meger has been a youth wrestling coach for four years. In his church, he has been an altar server for four years. He is employed at both the Stransky farm and the Krause farm. For college, he is considering St. Olaf, Augustana, and North Dakota State University, with a possible major in psychology or some other social science.
Eddie has played football, basketball, and baseball for four years at OHS. He has captained the basketball and football teams and has been named All-Conference in basketball. He has worked with SHOC and Peer Helpers and has sung in the Choir. He is currently president of DECA, a marketing student group, and also is a member of BPA, another business-oriented group. He also is a member of the National Honor Society.
Eddie has served as a volunteer for Special Olympics and has been a volunteer coach at Football Camp. He works for Owatonna Park & Rec as a Youth Basketball coach, as a Youth Football referee, and as a groundskeeper. For college, he is leaning toward the University of Iowa, likely to major in Business.
Cochran is vice-president of DECA and has previously served as secretary. For the school newspaper, the “Magnet,” he is both advertising director and photo editor.
At the Associated Church, Cochran serves as a youth elder. He is employed by Court Sports and at the Associated Church, where he is publications coordinator. He is currently undecided about college.
All three students attend Rotary Club weekly luncheons at the Holiday Inn and will receive special recognition at the October 31 meeting.
